About Catharine

(with a few words from Buffy & Huffy)

Canadian-born Catharine has been scrawling short stories pretty much since she could first read and write, a lively imagination encouraged by her dad. The interest in writing remained just for fun, until a series of serendipitous events one year led to a whisper from Buffy and Huffy that they would like to share their jaunts with others. Happily, Catharine found the wonderful illustrator, Sarah-Leigh Wills, who brought her magic sparkle to their world. Buffy and Huffy were very pleased to meet her! They have a lot of fun playing across the pages with her. They know friends are the best thing. Buffy says, “Whether you're feeling sunshiny or grumpy, a good friend will spend time with you, however you are.” “Or even when you’re being annoying,” Huffy adds. “A good friend forgives you and loves you whatever.” They are right.

When not messing about with Buffy and Huffy, a few favourite things in life for Catharine include scruffy country walks, beautiful coastal views and that first air of autumn. Catharine's early influences include Dr Seuss, Richard Scarry, and Spike Milligan’s silly work. Always content with paper and pens to hand and a mug of tea.  While busy writing, the icing on any cake (though ideally a chocolate one), is to have her adorable moggy, Poppy, contentedly curled up nearby, dreaming in her own fluffy world – when she’s not being pounced on by Fred, the impossibly naughty kitten who shares her home.
